What was the problem?

A national federation runs more than one competition at a time. LTAT's calendar covers the PTT series, Tennis 10s and beach tennis alongside the main tour, and every one of them produces entries, draws and ranking points that players, parents and clubs need to see without phoning the office.

  • Several competition formats run in parallel, each with its own entry rules and its own way of awarding points.
  • Players, coaches and clubs all need accounts, but they do not need the same screens or the same permissions.
  • Rankings are the output everyone checks and the thing most easily wrong, they have to follow from recorded results, not from a spreadsheet somebody maintains.
  • The audience checks a draw standing at a court, which makes the phone the primary device rather than the fallback.

How Apoliums approached it.

Model the tour once, event, entry, result, ranking, and let each format be configuration on top of it rather than a separate section of the site.

  1. One tournament model, several formats

    PTT series, Tennis 10s and beach tennis are variations of the same event record rather than parallel mini-sites. Adding a format is a configuration change; it does not fork the calendar or the entry flow.

  2. Registration as the front door

    Player sign-up and login are the entry point to everything else, entries, history and profile, so the federation stops re-keying forms that arrived by email.

  3. Rankings derived from recorded results

    Ranking tables are produced from results already stored against events, so the published table and the tournament archive cannot disagree with each other.

  4. Build the public pages for a phone at a court

    Calendar, draws and rankings are the pages that get opened courtside. They are the ones that had to stay fast and readable on a small screen, with the Android app covering the same ground.

What changed after launch.

Entries, draws and rankings stopped being three separate documents and became one dataset.

  • Players enter tournaments themselves instead of the federation re-keying emailed forms.

  • Calendar, draws and rankings come from one dataset, so the published table matches the archive.

  • New competition formats are added as configuration rather than as another section to maintain.

  • The same information is reachable from the website and the Android app.
